xerousers.com

the independent online community for xero users

Maybe I've not looked hard enough, but I can't find anything in Xero Help about what might happen if 2 or more users are online in an account, and operating on the same company.

From something that ocurred today, I suspect that problems can arise.

Can anyone confirm that this is the case? If so, Help should say something about it.

Also, it would seem more than sensible for Xero to flag a warning that more than one user has logged into the account and that they are operating on the same company.

In Help Centre we do have a paragraph about concurrent users - Manage your Xero Users: Who can be invited & what will they see?. Whoever saves something last, even if by the tiniest timeframe, will have their changes saved. What is it that has occurred in your company that you think might be caused by multiple users doing the same thing? Please feel free to email the scenario to support@xero.com if you'd rather not air it here.
Thanks for the feedback on not being able to find this information in Help Centre - I'll add it to the FAQ page.
Thanks Catherine - I think one user was inserting conversion balances and the other was uploading a bank statement; the conversion balances were lost (user not 100% sure he had pressed Save!).

Have you thought about publishing the Help as a PDF manual - I think that would be extremely useful.
Yes we did think about it early on and got a few requests to provide a manual - which we seriously looked into and even had a prototype book printed which was very exciting. However, with product releases coming thick and fast, keeping such a document up to date is a pretty big task, even if we just provide it as a PDF and get you guys to print it, you'd no sooner do that and it would be out of date. However, we do hold this in the back of our minds and if the opportunity arises to create PDF modules or similar we'll definitely consider it.
Here are a couple of old blog posts about the evolution of Help Centre including a picture of me holding the printed monster even back in 2007! Building Help Centre and Xero Help
It might be interesting to get users to vote on whether they would like to have a user manual.
Glad to see this was polled. I see the voting is reported as 13 for and 15 against, not a great result either way. However, there are still quite a lot of users like me who would like to see a Xero user manual. The objection based on the pdf getting rapidly out of date could be covered by providing an RSS feed of changes to the Help, perhaps with a pointer to the relevant page number in the pdf.

Incidentally, I was not aware of the poll till now (having been too busy to visit here for a while), but the poll is still open and I have now voted so the score is 14 to 15!

It would appear that anyone else who wants to vote can still do so.

I would be interested to hear how long the poll was open before the result was reported as negative.
