About Me

Although I am a chartered accountant by profession, my main interest is in software and technology – in particular how it can be used to make businesses work smarter and more profitably.

In 1995 I resigned as one of four partners in an independent accountancy firm to set-up my own firm, Pearson & Associates based in Skipton, North Yorkshire. At various times I have also been part-time finance director of 2 other businesses – Taskmaster, a staff agency, and Merit Software, a payroll and invoicing software developer.

I founded, and now manage, the Xero Users Online Community, which is a resource for users of the worlds easiest accounting software, and since January 2010, I have been developing a great new online service for accountants.

Hi Adrian, Spam???

I was invited on this forum from Earl Rudolfo.

To answer your questions, we user Xero to manage our company SaaSilia but more importantly GeoOP (see www.geoop.com) is integrated with Xero. It is currently in beta testing. We hope to release the approved version in the next few weeks.

We have many companies using GeoOP around the world from plumbers, electricians, freight, couriers, vets and bin pickup companies.

GeoOP is an effective dispatch and mobile workforce management system and allows users to create, edit jobs and create invoices in the field using the iPhone app with the mobile browser version to be updated with invoices in a few weeks.

If you have any customer who

1) Use Xero
2) Have iPhones with data plans
3) Would suit the power of GeoOP

We would be happy to add them to the beta testers. I can organise online setup and training which takes only 30 minutes.

Check out www.geoop.com if you have any more questions.

Regards

Ben

I'll do my best to get more people to join AND use it! The website is young, it can only get better.

Hi Adrian,
As a long time Xero advocate (and I think member #3 on this site) I've created a company called Xerds - The Xero Nerds. Xerds are a team of Xero Certified bookkeepers / systems advisors who specialise in setting up Xero for those are not inclined to do it themselves. If you could place us on the directory page it would be much appreciated, and I promise to be more active on this site now that the mission of setting up Xerds is over!

P.S. We are New Zealand based but have awesome remote capability, so any Accountants in the UK looking to farm out the installation work please let us know!

Xero wins more awards!

Posted on February 19, 2010 at 11:00 0 Comments

News is just coming through from the other side of the planet (New Zealand and the ONYAs to be precise) that Xero has won three out of the four awards it was nominated for, namely “Most Outstanding Website”, “Best User Experience” and “Best Web Application”. They missed out on “Most Innovative” but, hey, this is accounting software we’re talking about.

Of course, being web-based software, this is the same stuff that we use…

In a post on the Xero Blog on 15th January, Mark Matt Vickers discusses Vendor Lock-In. In a previous post, I commented on the automatic upgrades nature of Saas products. Here I want to examine Mark’s Matt's claim that:

Compulsory ugrades or good service?

Posted on January 15, 2010 at 11:33 0 Comments

In a post on the Xero Blog today, Mark Vickers discusses how users of software (desktop or web-based) are always vulnerable to “vendor lock-in” – in essence having their data stuck in a system they now want out of.

He cites the example of FaceBook’s recent change to its privacy policy, then moves on to accounting… Continue

All that Twitters is not gold?

Posted on September 28, 2009 at 8:00 0 Comments

In an article in yesterday's Sunday Times, reporter Dominic Rushe asks "What makes Twitter worth a billion dollars?", reacting to the news that the current darling of the media had attracted a $100m (£62m) investment, giving the business as a whole the astronomic theoretical price-tag.

The reporter goes…
